map of the French Riviera Outback region

Discover the Outback and Discover the Real French Riviera!

Escape the crowds, the glitz, glamour and coastal crowds of Cannes and Saint Tropez, and get back to nature. Discover the Riviera Outback, the inland area between the Mediterranean Sea and the Southern Alps.

This region offers a wide variety of activities for the entire family, and is an excellent base for healthy outdoor sports, including cycling, mountain biking, skiing, walking, rock climbing, canyoning, canoeing, rafting, fishing, horse riding and caving. It hosts several adventure forests, and the area has an underground "via ferrata". It is renowned for its paragliding and hang gliding flying sites in Col-de-Bleyne, Gourdon, Gréolières and Lachens. It is also the perfect base for trips to nearby Monaco and Italy, a trip also easily made by train. Only a short distance from Nice International Airport, the beaches of Cannes, and Grasse (the perfume capital of the world), it's the perfect destination for a short, weekend visit or a family holiday anytime of the year.

Discover the charm of our hilltop villages

If you are an avid hiker, backpacker or even more adventurous, we suggest you plan your visit and activities around one of our local villages. Each of our hilltop villages has its own personality and particular attractions. An outback village is the perfect base for a week of outdoor adventures, well-being, or workshops. This area offers a network of walking, hiking, rock climbing sites or mountain biking trails, music festivals, markets, and a variety of cultural and sport activites. You'll have no need for a car. Opt for environmentally-friendly transportation. Trains and buses run regularly from the airport to Grasse, with numerous buses connecting Grasse to most of the hilltop villages in the region. Once you're here, you can walk or rent a bicycle to get around the village.

Enjoy sunshine year-round

We have an average of 320 days of sunshine a year. Winter temperatures often reach 16°C/ 60°F in the daytime. Imagine enjoying a winter lunch on a sunny terrace, or being able to ski in the morning, and head down to the beach in the afternoon. Hike through forests, olive groves, visit vineyards, and hilltop villages. Shop in country markets. Hike or bike along the uncrowded roads of this inland back-country. Enjoy magnificent panoramic views far away from the crowded beaches and coastal traffic.

Come discover the Outback of the French Riviera, and rediscover nature's beauty!
